A filled-in example

Genre: detective mystery
Setting: A 1930s port city where thick fog rolls in every night
My character: A newly promoted young detective who is scared of dogs

What the AI's answer looks like

Illustrative excerpt: the real answer depends on the AI you use and what you fill in.

Fog creeps in from the harbour until the gas lamps are nothing but blurred yellow smudges. A call comes in: the night watchman at the warehouses has vanished. All that is left is an oil lamp, still warm, and a trail of dog prints leading toward the docks.

As you crouch to look at the prints, a low bark echoes somewhere in the fog.

What do you do?
1. Follow the prints to the docks
2. Go back to the station and pull the watchman's file
3. Knock on the warehouse manager's door and ask what he heard last night
(Or write your own action.)

Tips

Give your character a weakness; it makes the story more interesting
To shake things up, simply write "then something unexpected happens"
In a long game the AI may forget earlier events; ask it to recap the clues so far
